Communication from Dave Pywell 3rd February 2026
It was my first Wednesday of the new year back at the club last week, and it was great to see such a real buzz about the place. There was a very healthy attendance and I counted three new layouts being worked on by many members. We held our first committee meeting since the AGM. It was so pleasing to see George, Chris and Mike attend the meeting in their capacity as new committee members. At the beginning of the meeting it was agreed that I would hold the position of Acting Chairman (alongside my Treasurer role) until at least the next committee meeting. The construction of a new club layout was also agreed. Please speak with Ian or Chris for more information. However, I can say it will be a OO gauge roundy roundy which will allow members to run their stock in either analogue or DCC. The minutes of this meeting will be published on our website. TMC have once again agreed to sponsor our club this year, their sponsorship is a very generous one and is greatly appreciated. My thanks to Roland and Mike (and Chris H) for visiting Alex Yates the MD of TMC to facilitate this. The next exhibition the club will be attending with layouts Camelot and Low Fell is the Lincoln show on February 21st/22nd. I will be trading at the Warners exhibition at Doncaster racecourse this coming weekend. Please come and say hello if you are visiting. Jim has decided to abandon his Marklin layout and has kindly donated the baseboards to the club. Roland will be away from the club for a number of weeks as he sails the high seas down to the Caribbean. We wish him and Sue an enjoyable and safe holiday. The clubroom will be open Wednesday as usual from 2pm until 8pm (if required), any member who is wanting to attend in the evening then please let a committee member know otherwise it is possible the clubroom will be closed. It is helpful to inform all members that activities in the clubroom are not just on a Wednesday. Often there are members actively working on new layouts throughout the week. If you wish to come along and help, then please speak with any committee member regarding this. As many of you have an interest in the NYMR, it has been announced that bridge 42 at Grosmont will be ‘propped’. This allows the railway to open as normal at the beginning of the season. Further details will be released by NYMR. Top tip…always remember to display your parking zone disc! I forgot last Wednesday and had a note stuck to my windscreen asking me to cough up £25 😡😡 As motorists we are just easy pickings!! Thanks David Pywell Treasurer and Acting Chairman

SDRM weekly communication 27th January 2026
Dear All,
I hope that the inclement weather isn’t posing too much of a problem for you!
We will be holding the first Committee meeting of the year tomorrow, 28th January. This is the rescheduled meeting which we intended to have at the beginning of the month. I have received a request to put an additional item concerning power tools training on the agenda for discussion which I will add as an “AOB” point. The Committee meeting will be at 11.00 and should be finished well before our normal opening time of 14.00 hours. As usual we will remain open until 20.00 unless there are no members left!
Jim

Message to members w/c 19th January 2026
Good afternoon, all.
In Jim’s absence, he’s asked me to pen this week’s message to you all.
Although the weather continues to be bleak, members are still faithfully turning up on Wednesdays and work on layouts, particularly Grosmont, continues.
Jim has asked me to remind you that the much-postponed early January committee meeting is now due to be held next Wednesday morning (28th). If anyone has anything they’d like discussing at the meeting, drop him a note and he’ll get it on the agenda.
As well as building our own Club layouts, SDRM does try to assist members with their layouts. This can be in a number of different ways: from fine tuning loco decoders, to helping with research, building baseboards, laying track, sorting electrical problems, making buildings, etc. Sometimes this is done at the member’s home, other times (when we have room), work can be done in the club workshops.
You may have seen John Yard’s Hunstanton layout at the Club for a couple of weeks while some wiring gremlins were sorted. His layout is now back at home nearing completion.
This week, MKM are delivering some wood for Ian Hawkes’ new home layout. Ian, with help from other members, will be using freed-up space in the upper workshop to build his baseboards. As soon as they are completed, they’ll be going home. If anyone else would like to discuss something similar, have a word with George, our workshop manager, he’ll do his best to fit you in.
We have a couple of shows coming up in the next few months. As you know, these are excellent opportunities to showcase our Club and promote our own exhibitions. Due to holidays (and NHS appointments), we have been struggling to find volunteers to accompany these. If anyone does want to try a weekend away, have a word with me on Wednesday, and we’ll see what suits you best.
Speaking of Wednesday, the Club will be open from 2pm ‘til 8pm (or until the last member leaves).
Jim, Dave – enjoy your hols.
Hopefully, see the rest of you soon… Roland

SDRM weekly communication 13th Jamuary2026
Dear All,
First “normal” communication of the New Year! Happy New Year to one and all!
The inclement weather resulted in a lower than usual attendance at last week’s opening but congratulations to those who made it. I offer a big “thank you” to those who came anyway to open up the Club. We also decided to postpone the Committee Meeting which was due to be held last week. Given certain members’ absences this will now take place at 11.00 am on the 28th January. There is still time therefore for anyone to suggest items for discussion, if necessary.
The Club will be open as usual from 14.00 hours tomorrow and remain open until 20.00 unless there are no members left!
Jim

Weekly update for w/c Monday 5th January.
Dear all, Just a note to say, what with the poor weather and members' availability, that it has been agreed to postpone the planned committee meeting until the 28th January.
Ian Harper and Chris Blackstone have volunteered to open the Club at 14.00 hours on Wednesday, 7th for those hardy souls who wish to venture out regardless. Many thanks to both of them.
